Product vs Process: This is an idea I have held for a long time. I personally believe that If you want to become great at something you have to love the process more than the product. This might seem obvious, but as an example some one who likes cleaning will have a cleaner house than someone who just likes a clean house. Someone who loves practicing will be a better pianist than someone who simply wants to be a great pianist. However, there is a downside when you are more attached to the process.Today I finished a project that I have been working on for over a year and a half. I was alone when I sent the final files to the client. Nothing happened, I just moved on with my day working on other projects that needed to be done. No ceremony, no celebration, just more doing. This could just be a consequence of working alone. It could also be that by the time I finish a project or a painting I feel like I’ve progressed in my skills and do not much like looking at the sub-par thing I just finished. What ever the case I find way more joy in the doing than the having.
