I Have the bad habit of drawing people in church…. during church. Today we sat in font of two boys who were so excited to show us their new Lego X-wing. Instead of drawing the speakers as I normally do, I decided to draw some tie fighters and x-wings for the boys as a gift. Abby saw what I was doing, leaned over and said “ You should add more to that one. You can do better.” This is the part of Abby that I have learned about slowly over 3 and a half years. Abby keeps high standards, and cares deeply that these silly little sketches being made for these two little boys was up to snuff. She knows that the boys wont know the difference, but it still matters, because we can do better. Abby isn’t just good with kids, She understands kids. She respects kids. She connects with kids. Kids are drawn to her, because kids like adults that are not pretending. Abby treats kids more like little adults than like children. They trust her, because they know that she gives her best. I am still learning that I also need to give my best to them. I am lucky to have such a good example and mentor.
